Q. What is peripheral vascular disease?
A.

Peripheral vascular disease refers to diseases of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. It's often a narrowing of the vessels that carry blood to leg and arm muscles. There are two types of these circulation disorders:

  • Functional peripheral vascular diseases don't have an organic cause and don't involve defects in blood vessels' structure. They're usually short-term effects and can come and go. Raynaud's disease (or Raynaud's phenomenon) is an example. It can be triggered by cold temperatures, emotional stress, working with vibrating machinery or smoking.
  • Organic peripheral vascular diseases are caused by structural changes in the blood vessels (such inflammation and tissue damage). Peripheral artery disease is an example. It's caused by atherosclerosis.

    Q. Do you have parking?
    A.

Visitor parking is available in the Hospital's 950-car multi-tiered parking garage, located directly opposite the main hospital lobby at Entrance #3. There is a nominal fee for parking. Visitors are charged $1.75 for up to one hour; $3.50 for one to two hours; $4.50 for two to four hours, and $5.00 for more than four hours. The Hospital has made provision for two "Emergency Contact" persons for each patient. It is requested that these contact persons bring their driver's licenses to the Cashiers' Office located on the first floor of the Monti Pavilion. The Cashier will verify the information and offer the following parking benefits:

    • The two "Emergency Contact" persons may re-enter the parking garage on the same day without paying an additional fee. When exiting after the first visit, pay the posted rates and request a receipt from the Cashier. On the second visit of the same day, bring the receipt from the first visit and the parking ticket from the second visit to the Cashiers' Office where the ticket will be validated.
    • After 14 days, all visits by the "Emergency Contact" persons are free. The Cashiers' Office will validate parking tickets after 14 days. Ticket validation takes place during the Cashiers' Office normal business hours (8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.).
    • Parents of infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) may park free of charge in the garage. Bring the parking ticket to the Nursing Station in NICU where it will be stamped. Then stop at the Security Desk in the Monti Lobby to have the ticket validated.

    Q. What are your visiting hours and policies?
    A.

While you are in the hospital, family and friends may be anxious to visit you. We will try to accommodate them but urge you and your visitors to keep in mind that while you are here, you may need a great deal of rest to help you recuperate. We also ask that you and your visitors respect the needs and wishes of other patients who are sharing your room.

Children under the age of 14 are discouraged as visitors on patient floors other than the Maternity Unit.

Please note that visiting hours are subject to change. You may verify visiting hours with the patient's unit.

A visitor may stand in front of a video camera located in the Monti lobby while talking to the patient on a courtesy telephone. This system allows the patient to view the visitor while conversing.
